Digital Photo Collage
February 2002
The intersection of Park and University Boulevard in Tucson is directly in front of the main gate of the University of Arizona. They are both 1-lane streets, and the intersection is just a stop sign. On any given school day, tens of thousands of people cross the intersection, on every form of transportation feasible on the ground: walking, running, biking, skateboarding, driving, motorbiking, on scooters, an occasional wheelchair and even a unicycle or two.
Since few people not using a vehicle care enough to stop before crossing (or even look both ways) there is a lot of frustration, permenant traffic jams, and a general sociological soup.
This was done as part of a school assignment, in which we were charged with choosing a particular part of Tucson we found to be interesting, and make a postcard representing it. I used to work in a very tiny soda-and-cigarettes booth at the corner and was already fascinated by this area.
The design itself stemmed from an interest in digital photography and how Photoshop layers could be used to make ultra-bright Technicolor photos.
